提摩太前書 1:1-2
1:1[hb5] 奉 我 們 救 主 神 、 和 我 們 的 盼 望 基 督 耶 穌 之 命 、 作 基 督 耶 穌 使 徒 的 保 羅 、
[kjv] Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
1:2[hb5] 寫 信 給 那 因 信 主 作 我 真 兒 子 的 提 摩 太 ． 願 恩 惠 憐 憫 平 安 、 從 父 神 和 我 們 主 基 督 耶 穌 、 歸 與 你 。

[kjv] Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
1:2[hb5] 盼 望 那 無 謊 言 的 神 、 在 萬 古 之 先 所 應 許 的 永 生 、
[kjv] In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
1:3[hb5] 到 了 日 期 、 藉 著 傳 揚 的 工 夫 、 把 他 的 道 顯 明 了 ． 這 傳 揚 的 責 任 、 是 按 著 神 我 們 救 主 的 命 令 交 託 了 我 。

1:4[hb5] 現 在 寫 信 給 提 多 、 就 是 照 著 我 們 共 信 之 道 作 我 真 兒 子 的 ． 願 恩 惠 平 安 、 從 父 神 和 我 們 的 救 主 基 督 耶 穌 歸 與 你 。

年少時我特別喜愛寫信給筆友，拍拖後就寫信給情人，做異鄉人時則會長篇大論地寫信給母親。總覺得書信是一種沒有太大拘束的文體，可以我手寫我心，向收信者抒發自己的情懷，既是寫有關自己的想法，也能幫自己一邊寫一邊整理自己所講述的事情和道理。
保羅給提摩太及提多的書信, 在十八世紀後，傳統上合稱它們為教牧書信，教牧書信特別是提摩太後書，相信是保羅死前數年寫給提摩太的，內容不只是保羅的個人信息，而更包括他對在希臘及小亞細亞的初期基督教會出現的問題，表示莫大關注；並針對問題，提出合乎福音又合適當時地域文化的教導。
現就讓我們先比較吓三卷書信的起首，看看是不是如我所說，「不拘文體，我手寫我心」？保羅怎樣稱呼自己？怎樣稱呼提摩太和提多？他又怎樣教導提摩太和提多作為教牧的位份？ (待續)
